Initially, I had trouble understanding how the program worked. I spoke to James Fortune from Acclaim Software and it turned out that the program is quite intuitive, I was simply causing myself more problems than necessary. So stick with it, it's well worth it.
I purchased Professional Investigator before the end of the evaluation period.
Over the next few months, I was in frequent contact with James. If I ran into a jam, most often due to my own stupidity, he was readily available to save me from myself. He also listened to me every time
I had a "brilliant" idea and said, "wouldn't that be neat?" Many of the things I talked about were added to the program, frequently within days. This still continues to this day. Bugs are fixed within hours; new features suggestions are often added within days. Fantastic.
The technical support is everything they claim. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it is free too. Rather than
waste their time trying to make a few extra dollars, Acclaim Software spend their time doing what they do best, writing quality software! How many software companies can say the same thing?
So what about Professional Investigator itself? It is wonderful! I cannot say enough positive things about it.
It is remarkably flexible. It can be used as a simple time and billing program or, for those individuals who are compulsive about their records, the program will keep track of every little detail. Through the magic of the Report and Query Wizards, information can be retrieved and organized in so many different ways, it
boggles the imagination - mine anyway.
I love the way I can enter cases, keep track of contacts, assign multiple categories, manage all types of data, and with the report wizard, create custom reports.
There is not enough time or space to say all the wonderful things that need to be said about Professional Investigator, Acclaim Software, and especially James Fortune.
Quality software is not that hard to find. However, what is more difficult to find is quality software for a price that does not take food off your table
and has great technical support. The price for single user is exceptionally reasonable and the price for the network version is good too.
I actually worked for the only serious competitor Professional Investigator has once!
Prior to becoming a private investigator, I worked for the company that developed and sells Investigative Works. But I became disenchanted. There were too many problems. It's written in Fox
Pro, which does not seem to run reliably on newer and faster computers. People complained it was too slow and it doesn't have the look and feel of a proper Windows program. My new business partner had it
when I joined him and periodically gets error messages and has to shut the program down and reboot his computer.
He sometimes looses data when this happens. Furthermore, the program costs more than Professional Investigator.
I suppose I could be called a true convert!
My agency will continue to do business with James Fortune and Acclaim Software as long as we shall continue to exist. We will gladly pay whatever is asked for future versions of the program.
Need I say that I am not an employee of Acclaim Software and get no monetary compensation for this endorsement?
Anyway, do not take my word for it. Get the program and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
