Fantastic work! Professional Investigator is the fruition of a long held ambition to find software designed to address the needs of running an investigative business. Contacts are the lifeblood of the investigation industry and, historically, management of them has been relatively unsophisticated and very time consuming. I am now spending far less time on administration and the very-easy-to-use mail merge facility has enabled us to send highly targeted mailshots that have already brought in new clients and increased revenue.

After a further year of using PI, Paul Devlin has some more things to say...

Recently, Paul wrote in the A.B.I. e-mail forum:

I have been running and using Professional Investigator virtually every working day for over a year now and have found it to be invaluable. The strength of the product is that you can program it to work in a way that allows you maximum manipulation of your records to suit your circumstances and business. However, like most powerful programs, to get the best out of it you must give a lot of thought at the outset as to how you want it to interrogate your data. I have about 1,400 contacts stored in Professional Investigator and here are some of the things I can achieve in a matter of seconds using this software:

  1. Identify all 'potential clients' (as opposed to existing 'clients') who are in the 'insurance' business who specialise in 'disability claims' and are based in 'City1' (useful if you are going to City1 and want to do some sales calls whilst there). The software will also do a mail merge so that you can write to these same contacts in advance.
  2. Print out labels to all the persons on our 'Christmas card' list.
  3. Print out labels to all contact who are on our 'newsletter' mailing list.
  4. Identify all agents in a number of specified post/zipcode areas who have the capability to carry out a mobile surveillance exercise.
  5. Identify all contact in the database who provide a handwriting analysis service.
  6. Send a letter and print labels to all contact in the database who have the potential to provide us with work in the area of 'corporate fraud'.
  7. Identify all 'Decision Makers' in the 'Banking' sector located within the 'Realization' department of each bank.
  8. Narrow the search down further by asking it to identify the same criteria but listing only those in a particular post/zipcode area.
  9. Send a letter and produce labels to all those contacts who are 'agents' and are based 'overseas'.
  10. Print labels for all those contacts who are 'ABI' members.
  11. Send a letter and produce labels for all 'Potential Clients' who are 'Lawyers' based in 'City2' who specialise in 'Property Litigation'
  12. Identify all 'agents' located in 'City3'.

I could go on with endless permutations but I am sure you get the picture by now.

The point is, if you take the time to set up Professional Investigator to suit your needs at the outset, you can sit back and let it do the work from then on! Wonderful!

I have absolutely no commercial interest in PI but I do know that James and Stephen have put a great deal of effort creating a tool specifically tailored to meet our needs. The more of us who buy it then the more they will be encouraged to develop it further in the future.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any non-technical questions or want some tips on how to configure Professional Investigator.'
