FAQ005

Do cookies enable 3rd parties to get private information from my computer?

No.  Cookies can't do that. They only save what a particular server tells them and then send that information back to the server at some other time. One server can only see what it sends, it cannot see another server's cookies. Cookies cannot do anything for themselves. They are only text files after all. So, accepting cookies will not in any way present a security hazard for information stored on your computer.

If you're still concerned about cookies, check out the Unofficial Cookie FAQ at Cookie Central.
